About the alpha
Kadrack is in alpha. That means:
What works well
Section titled “What works well”- Library management. Scanning, watching, tag read, duplicate detection.
- Playback. Bit-perfect output, gapless, ReplayGain, cross-platform device selection.
- Metadata editing. Non-destructive edit queue, MusicBrainz/Discogs lookups, cover art cache.
- Playlists. Static + smart (with a visual rule builder + raw DSL editor).
- External storage. Mount-state awareness for NAS/removable drives; auto-relocate when paths change.
What’s rough
Section titled “What’s rough”- First-run experience. Onboarding is minimal. The app assumes you know what a music library is and where your files live.
- Visual polish. Some surfaces (context menus, modals) use placeholder chrome that will be replaced once the design system reaches them.
- Unsigned binaries. Gatekeeper/SmartScreen warnings on first launch (see install guide).
- Prefs don’t persist across restarts (issue #45). Known bug — fixes in an early alpha update.
What’s coming
Section titled “What’s coming”- Device sync. Copy albums/playlists to DAPs or phones over USB/MTP.
- Signed installers. Post-alpha, once we commit to the annual cert costs.
- In-app feedback + “what’s new” modal. See #43.
Reporting issues
Section titled “Reporting issues”GitHub Issues is the single source of truth. Include your version (Settings → About → click the version) + what you were doing + what happened.
